Heading into the postseason, what's your take?
Duke is a serious Final Four contender
We just may have kept the Duke Foot Injury from ending our season for the third straight year
Miami is really backing into the tournament phase
So much for those little Tools and their VAUNTED twelve-guard lineup, at least until next Saturday

Miami @ Duke Gameblog: Kelly to Start

Date: 3/2/2013

#5 Miami, Florida @ #3 DUKE
March 2, 2013
Durham, North Carolina (Cameron Indoor Stadium)

If Kelly does return, either to start (as reported) or just coming off the bench, that will certainly life the crowd into orbit, and, more importantly, provide a rise in Duke's fortunes after a head-shaking loss in Charlottesville.  Duke has had Virginia's number for about a decade, and the Cravs finally have a real coach, so Thursday night's result wasn't a huge surprise, but the Mason Plumlee Disappearing Act, Rasheed Sulaimon's pitiful showing, the absolute zero at the four spot (check out Hairston's immortal 15-minute line in the box), and the comical Roger Ayers Show were just disgusting.  No wonder Krzyzewski was so upset, and then some court-storming fans had to get in his grille after the proceedings to boot.

Duke has been one of the 25-30 worst defensive teams in the country without Kelly, and any team that has had the temerity to doubleteam Plumlee has been richly rewarded.  That should all come to a welcome end tonight, and while it may not translate to a win over the talented (if thuggish) and verrrrry well-coached Hurryclowns, it can't hurt, and the discomfiting idea of Duke not seeing the Sweet Sixteen this season, because of the third straight season diverted by The Duke Foot Injury, can perhaps be safely put to rest.

Let's see.  Game thread below for anyone who still checks in here.

Miami (FL) 73, Duke 71.

Dang Orangutang.

Wow, UNC-LA pretty much pulled the same stunt as Duke tonight (safe 10-pt lead? what safe 10-pt lead?). Jay Bias, providing color, got in a plug for his alma mater, praising James Michael John Francis Peter McAdoo's toughness.

TDD message board, that is. TDD original content is good.

Posted by: Matt Date: 3/2/2013 10:32:22 PM
Sure, SFSF. Good to see you.

Tom: thanks. DBR is horrible. TDD is almost as bad now, just different.

RK wowza. Expectations * 100; Hopes * 10; Pipe dreams * 2.

Thanks for coming back, DBR has been driving me nuts. This win was, I think, crucial for the season...

The amazing thing about the tip: we got possession and a turnover and thus flipped the jump ball arrow, so it was like two turnovers.

The good thing about Quinn: realizing that traps can equal alley-oops.

The good thing about defensive rebounds: hey, we finally got a few at the end.

The good thing about Ryan Kelly: goofiest mother ever to hang 35+ on a top five team?

The good thing about this evening: that last shot did not drop and I can continue to enjoy my (prescription) Vicodin!

Hope to see youse next week...

Switching over to Big Ten Network for Indiana-Iowa. Oh, that's where Dave Revsine's been hiding.

Nice aerial shot of Westwood by ESPN. Looks like a nice place.

Posted by: Mark Buckner Date: 3/2/2013 8:29:11 PM
Always. Been here for years, not going anywhere.

Posted by: Matt Date: 3/2/2013 8:27:07 PM
Props too to Dave O'Brien for keeping Vitale in check and calling a great game. Bullethead would have had to be restrained from challenging Kyle Singler to a duel again if he'd done this one. Sure he lost some clams on the game anyway.

Posted by: Matt Date: 3/2/2013 8:22:46 PM
Mark, anytime, bro! Hopefully I bought back some goodwill for taking the season off. Come back!!

Posted by: Matt Date: 3/2/2013 8:22:13 PM
Jalen Rose blowing everyone's house down with excuses for the Hurryclowns on the postgame. Does Jay Bias new book include a section on Jalen's Duke As Uncle Toms Theorem?

Also, Jalen goes with Suh-LAY-mon to pronounce Rasheed's surname. #inspiredchoice

Posted by: Mark Buckner Date: 3/2/2013 8:22:05 PM
Matt, enjoyed it. Lets do this again, yeah?

Posted by: Matt Date: 3/2/2013 8:19:21 PM
Exactly. Coach K and Plumlee try their best to give away the game, but Kelly would not be denied. Classy interview with Doris too. Great kid.

Posted by: Matt Date: 3/2/2013 8:18:42 PM
WHEW

WHEW

Posted by: Mark Buckner Date: 3/2/2013 8:18:38 PM
Thank you Ryan for winning this game despite the coaching.

Unbelievable. Just unbelievable how poorly Coach K finished the game. Unbelievable.

Posted by: Matt Date: 3/2/2013 8:13:18 PM
This is just part of the brilliance of K: teaching Mason how to close out games, y'see.

Posted by: Matt Date: 3/2/2013 8:12:53 PM
MASON

clutch

Posted by: Mark Buckner Date: 3/2/2013 8:11:17 PM
Get that sonuvabitch out of the game!

Posted by: Matt Date: 3/2/2013 8:10:39 PM
Cameron clock operator, always reliable, gets in on the action

Posted by: Matt Date: 3/2/2013 8:10:14 PM
ARE WE REALLY GOING TO WASTE THIS PERFORMANCE BY KELLY???????????? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Posted by: Mark Buckner Date: 3/2/2013 8:08:47 PM
Heckuva job K!

Posted by: Matt Date: 3/2/2013 8:07:55 PM
Krzyzewski: Unreal #GOAT

Posted by: Matt Date: 3/2/2013 8:06:52 PM
Oh, K can't figure out to have Mason nowhere near the ball with Miami sure to foul??

Posted by: Mark Buckner Date: 3/2/2013 8:06:08 PM
Why is Plumlee inbounding the ball?!

Posted by: Mark Buckner Date: 3/2/2013 8:04:11 PM
No 3s!

Posted by: Matt Date: 3/2/2013 8:03:23 PM
Rasheed makes up for those three possessions he gave back to Miami in the first ten minutes.

Posted by: Matt Date: 3/2/2013 7:54:40 PM
Duke's defense seems to have picked up. Miami running everything through Larkin.

Posted by: Matt Date: 3/2/2013 7:53:45 PM
Kelly: able to hit free throws, MASON

Posted by: Matt Date: 3/2/2013 7:39:41 PM
Kelly's performance = one of the best in Cameron history.

Posted by: Mark Buckner Date: 3/2/2013 7:38:37 PM
Gotta give credit, big shot by Plumlee.

Posted by: Mark Buckner Date: 3/2/2013 7:34:52 PM
Pull Plumlee and let Hairston play center. Plumlee gives up the rim whenever a driver gets close, as if there is a phantom 6th man he has to run out on. ??!!

Posted by: Matt Date: 3/2/2013 7:33:38 PM
Sulaimon just KILLING us.

Posted by: Matt Date: 3/2/2013 7:19:42 PM
Kelly could probably use a rest, K. Just sayin'. Maybe take him out for a spell after these free throws? Probably don't need to run him for 38-39.

Posted by: Mark Buckner Date: 3/2/2013 7:15:33 PM
Plumlee's feet are concrete.

Posted by: Mark Buckner Date: 3/2/2013 7:10:10 PM
Curious to see how Kelly holds up this half.

Posted by: Matt Date: 3/2/2013 7:07:42 PM
Any other Duke players besides RK who want to participate in the second half, come on down!

Posted by: Matt Date: 3/2/2013 6:56:41 PM
The thing I hate most about Duke's defense: that ridiculous, useless, pointless, dickless "high flash out" by the five on the point at the top of the key. 100% of the time it accomplishes nothing; 50% of the time it evacuates the lane and results in some wild dunk for some two-foot range garbageman like Trey Mandibular-Joint. I swear that Duke would have eight national titles without this play.

Posted by: Matt Date: 3/2/2013 6:48:30 PM
Jesus. This performance by Ryan Kelly is bringing tears to my eyes. Nice to see a Duke player with some sack, MASON

Posted by: Mark Buckner Date: 3/2/2013 6:46:07 PM
This something else. Kelly, welcome back.

The man defense against quicker guards is baffling. Always has been...

Posted by: Matt Date: 3/2/2013 6:42:39 PM
God, I hate Krzyzewski's overplay MTM

Kelly hits another three. 13 points. Yeah, this guy wasn't important, national media. Practically the team MVP.

Posted by: Matt Date: 3/2/2013 6:35:27 PM
You as well, Mark

Zanies, please don't boo when a guy hits his head and goes down and Duke is not on a fast break, so it was appropriate to stop play under the rules #kthxbai

Posted by: Mark Buckner Date: 3/2/2013 6:34:34 PM
Am I wrong in suggesting Kelly actually directs both ends of the court from the top of the key? He tells everyone where to be, go, etc.

Posted by: Matt Date: 3/2/2013 6:32:54 PM
Kelly with 10 points in 11 minutes.

Atrocious officiating, here we come!

Posted by: Mark Buckner Date: 3/2/2013 6:29:10 PM
Matt, always good to hear from you.

Posted by: Matt Date: 3/2/2013 6:17:35 PM
Kelly's early three blows the roof off. Love it. Please stop stepping on lines, Rasheed!

Posted by: Matt Date: 3/2/2013 6:10:58 PM
Wow, we WILL get the tip. Amazing!!! Clapclapclap, Espenators!!!!!!!111

Posted by: Matt Date: 3/2/2013 6:09:33 PM
Duke holds the tip, but we probably still won't see it as the Worldwide Trailer refuses to cut away from an 11-point Big XII matchup with 45 seconds left. Oh, wait, maybe we will as Texas decides not to foul. Thanks, Rick Barnes!
