TWO DUKIES PICK THE ACC Volume VI, no. XXIX - February 18 , 2003 Welcome to this edition of the sixth (we can't believe it either) season of Two Dukies Pick the ACC. Rob and Matt invite you to sit back, relax, and enjoy a few thoughts, which will probably go down better with a couple of cold brewskis. You have been warned. The TWO DUKIES name and material are, for some obscure reason, affiliated with http://www.dukies.com, and for even weirder reasons, copyright 2003 Rigel Enterprises, Ltd. All rights reserved, to say nothing of your willingness to return after reading some of this gibberish. Matt's picks in blue. Rob Mac K's comments in green. FLORIDA STATE (12-10, 3-8) @ NORTH CAROLINA STATE (13-8, 6-4) North Carolina State 75, Florida State 73. Man, you it sure doesn't seem like NC State is just one game back in the loss column from the conference leaders, now does it? Heck, with Duke, Maryland, and Wake still on the schedule (the latter two at home) they actually control their own destiny to finish with at least a share of the mythical regular season title. That said, who are we kidding? The Pack still has 3 road ACC games left, and this is a team that is 1-6 on the road this year. Fuggedaboudit. However, of those seven road games, the lone win was earlier this season in the TLCCCCCC. Florida State is 0-5 in road games in league play this season. You do the math. North Carolina State 84, Florida State 77. NORTH CAROLINA A&T (0-20, 0-13 MEAC) @ NORTH CAROLINA - CHAPEL HILL (13-11, 4-7) North Carolina-Chapel Hill 80, North Carolina A&T 54. Boy howdy, they managed to find a team that even last year's edition of the Baby Blue Warriors could handle! No, this isn't the team where the coach got fired after going after the assistant with a gun, nor one of the teams that were in the brawl and had to finish playing 4-on-3, but the Aggies of NC A&T are in a similar state of disarray, so the mistake is an understandable one. 0 and freaking 20? In the MEAC, which isn't exactly the Group of Death of the college basketball world? These guys suck! Chapel Hill 102, Not Chapel Hill 60. CLEMSON (13-8, 3-7) @ VIRGINIA (14-9, 5-6) Virginia 74, Clemson 64. Clemson is, of course, zero for their last five road games, and all three of their ACC wins were in the comfort of Rentojohn Coliseum, including a 78-77 win over RoadVirginia back on January 18. The Whose, of course, are now 10-1 at home after getting whupped by Duke on Saturday night as predicted in this space. :) You know, Virginia is hard ot figure out - at one point they had won four of their last five, including a huge win at Maryland, and now the wheels have suddenly seemed to come off with big losses at Carolina and at home to Duke. It's hard to say what's really going on up there (well duh.. it's Virginia!) but I don't think it's bad enough that they are going to lose to Clemson at home. At least, Big Head Pete (I was watching the post-game news conference on Saturday night on ESPNews - the man truly does have a gigantic head) and the Monsters better hope not. Virginia 78, Clemson 61. Last Edition: Rob 3-2 (0.600) Matt 2-3 (0.400) Guests 0-0 (0.000) This Season: Rob 47-17 (.734) Matt 46-18 (.719) Guests 5-0 (1.000) TD in Guest Editions: 10-0 (1.000)
